Cultivating Forestry Champions

In 1907, when the Georgia Forestry Association was founded, forestry and agriculture was a way of life for most Georgians. Today, more than 75 percent of Georgia’s citizens live in an urban or suburban area in the state, and forestry is not a priority issue for those communities. As the state continues to grow, and our population continues to shift to urban areas, GFA must be positioned to win in an ever-changing political dynamic.

Through ForestPAC, the Association’s political action committee, GFA is focused on cultivating relationships with legislators who support forestry while also connecting with urban and suburban legislators who may not know or understand how important forestry is in Georgia. GFA strategically leverages ForestPAC to support our advocacy efforts while giving you, our donors, critical access to Georgia’s current and future political leaders.

Weyerhaeuser is a member of the ForestPAC due to the Association’s ability to foster strong relationships with members of the Georgia Legislature, both Democrats and Republicans. It is only through this relationship building that the forest industry is provided an opportunity to educate lawmakers on the policies which they debate.
