Where Markets Meet Conservation: A Night Celebrating Forestry

Last weekend, forestry leaders, landowners, and partners from both Georgia and Florida came together for A Night to Celebrate Forestry, an evening centered on connection, collaboration, and the future of working forests.

Hosted in partnership with the Florida Forestry Association at the Tall Timbers Research Station, the event highlighted a message that carried throughout the night: healthy forest markets are essential to long-term conservation.

“We’re excited to be here tonight bringing together those who care deeply about the conservation of forests for all the benefits they provide,” said Tim Lowrimore, President and CEO of the Georgia Forestry Association. “When markets are strong, landowners have the incentive to keep their land in forests. Sustaining the forests we value depends not only on stewardship, but on economic viability.”

The evening’s program featured perspectives from leaders across the region, reinforcing the importance of aligning conservation goals with market realities and continuing to work together across state lines.

Featured speakers included Ken Arney, USDA Forest Service Southern Regional Forester and Kathy Mears, Assistant Commissioner of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs.

In addition to the program, strong participation in the evening’s silent and live auctions demonstrated the forestry community’s continued support for advancing this work.

As the night made clear, the future of forestry will require partnership, shared commitment, and a continued focus on the connection between markets and conservation.
