2024 Georgia Tree Farm of the Year: H. G. Yeomans III Family Trust

This past summer, at GFA’s Annual Conference & Forestry Expo in Savannah, the Georgia Tree Farm Program announced H. G. Yeomans III Family Trust as the 2024 Georgia Tree Farmer of the Year. The award is given to forest landowners certified through the American Tree Farm System (ATFS) in recognition of private landowners who practice and promote outstanding forest management that supports sustainable wildlife, wood, water, and recreation.

Carol Yeomans and the Yeoman family – Georgia Tree Farm of the Year Recipients.

Growing from 275 to 2300 acres, the Yeomans family farm was established in the 1700s. Their pulpwood company, Yeomans Wood and Timber, is well known for its commitment to forest stewardship. Numerous forest management practices are utilized on the property, including prescribed fire, native longleaf pine restoration, and wildlife habitat preservation. Exemplifying a true commitment to the environment and their own community, they have additionally integrated soil and water-friendly road construction, created custom deer stand designs that accommodate physically challenged outdoor enthusiasts, and constructed old farm structures with reclaimed wood and bricks that is utilized for educational community events and family gatherings.
