Family Forest Transition Seminar

RSVP for FRC’s Family Forest Transition Seminar

2026 GFA Annual Conference | Friday, July 24, 2026 from 9:00-11:00 AM

Every family forest owner faces the challenge of managing a family forest business through the next generational transition. The question is how that will happen…Will you do it proactively or reactively? Join FRC’s “Family Forest Business Transition Seminar” to begin the conversation for your family at the 2026 GFA Annual Conference.

Studies show that family businesses in transition have a 30% probability of successful transfer to the 2nd generation, a 10 to 15% probability of successful transfer to the 3rd generation, and less than a 5% probability of successful transfer to the 4th generation. While the transfer of the forestland asset is relatively simple; issues begin to arise, and transitions fail, when there are people involved. Generational transfer of the ethic, the legacy, and other values is much more difficult. In this session, we will introduce the main issues and questions to consider – and share some illustrative examples and pitfalls to avoid.
