GFA Launches New Webinar with Forestry Experts

The Georgia Forestry Association recently launched a new webinar series designed to give landowners practical information and resources to help them better manage their property.

The series kicked off in August with Georgia Forestry Commission foresters Chris Howell, Lisa Duncan and Alexandra Ford, who provided an overview of forest management planning and the resources available to Georgia landowners.

Forest Management Plans

The August 10 webinar covered the different types of management plans available through GFC, including practice plans, management plans and comprehensive Forest Stewardship Plans. The speakers also discussed how GFC foresters can help landowners establish management objectives, develop long-term plans and connect with other forestry professionals and resources.

Landowners also learned about GFC’s Conservation Woodlands Program for smaller-acreage properties, opportunities to work with consulting foresters, conservation easements and the Forest Legacy Program.

Fall Food Plots

The series continued September 10 with Jeff Cook of UGA Extension, who covered the fundamentals of establishing and managing fall food plots. Topics included site selection, soil testing, crop selection, planting timing and strategies for managing deer pressure.

The webinar also included questions from landowners about food plots on sandy soils, soil sampling, low-cost wildlife habitat improvements and more.
