Hammock-Wicks Timber Named 2026-2027 Georgia Logger of the Year

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Georgia Forestry Association (GFA), in partnership with the Southeastern Wood Producers Association (SWPA), recognized Jason Wicks of Hammock-Wicks Timber, Inc. of Roberta as the 2026–2027 Georgia Logger of the Year during the 2026 GFA Annual Conference. The award, sponsored by Mason Tractor Company, honors professional loggers who demonstrate excellence in safety, stewardship, and leadership within Georgia’s forestry community.

Wicks began his logging career at just 11 years old, working alongside his stepfather, Lamar Hammock. After graduating from high school, he earned a degree in mechanics from Nashville Diesel Automotive College before returning to the family business. Today, he brings more than 30 years of experience to Hammock-Wicks Timber.

Known for operating two crews with an unwavering commitment to safety, Wicks has built a reputation for professionalism and doing the job the right way. He consistently implements outstanding Best Management Practices to protect water quality, carefully maintains forest roads, and takes pride in responsibly caring for the land on every harvest. Beyond the woods, Wicks and Hammock-Wicks Timber are active supporters of their local community, regularly contributing to local businesses, school athletic programs, and community events.

“Jason does exemplary work,” said Matthew Fellows, Harvest Manager for Weyerhaeuser. “Safety is a big part of how Jason runs his crews.”

Described by those who know him as humble and hardworking, Wicks credits his success and each day’s opportunities to the Good Lord. He accepted the award alongside his wife, Maria; daughter, Sadie; and his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Lamar Hammock.

The Georgia Logger of the Year Award recognizes logging professionals whose commitment to safety, sustainable forestry, and service strengthens Georgia’s forest industry and the communities it supports.
