Gov. Kemp Amends Wildfire State of Emergency Order

Governor Brian Kemp has signed an Executive Order amending Georgia’s wildfire State of Emergency as recovery efforts continue across South Georgia.

Of particular importance to the forestry community, the Order authorizes increased truck weight limits for vehicles providing relief related to the State of Emergency on state-maintained roads (excluding interstates).

Under the Order:

  • Five-axle vehicles may operate up to 95,000 pounds gross vehicle weight
  • Appropriate escorts, permits, and safety markings are required in accordance with GDOT regulations
  • Full details in the Executive Order (linked here)

The Order also lifts the temporary burn ban previously implemented under the wildfire emergency declaration.

Oversize permits may be obtained through Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement by calling 844-837-5500 or through the Georgia Permitting and Routing Optimization System (GAPROS).

The Executive Order took effect May 12, 2026. GFA will send out another alert when the order expires. Read the full executive order here.
