The Georgia Forestry Association (GFA) recently welcomed Katlyn LaVelle as the Association’s 2015 summer intern. Katlyn will be responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the 2015 Annual Conference & Forestry Expo on Aug. 1-3 on Jekyll Island.
A native of Griffin, Ga., and a recent graduate of the University of Georgia (UGA) College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Katlyn has a strong passion for agricultural and environmental education. After her internship with the Association, she plans to enter graduate school in the fall to pursue her Master’s in Agricultural and Environmental Education at UGA.
“Forestry plays a key role in Georgia’s economy. Working with GFA is not only a great way to learn more about the vast forest industry, but also an opportunity to broaden my communication skills through hands-on experience.” Katlyn said. “I am excited to assist GFA and Georgia’s community of forest professionals throughout this summer.”
Katlyn has more than three years’ experience as a camp counselor at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center located north of Eatonton, Ga. In addition, she has served as the Georgia 4-H Foundation Intern since Aug. 2013. There her responsibilities included writing, donor/public relations, fundraising and event planning and promotion.
During her time at UGA, Katlyn also held numerous positions with a variety of on campus organizations that includes the Student Government Association, Block & Bridle, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority and Collegiate 4-H.
