On May 20, 2021, GFA Board Member Troy Harris, Managing Director of Timberland at Jamestown LP, testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry at a hearing addressing forestland and the opportunities for impacting climate change.
Harris, a certified forester with over 25 years of experience in public and institutional timberland portfolio management, advocated for private working forests and their part as a natural climate solution. Harris discussed the carbon benefits of forests, and provided testimony in support of:
- expanding markets for carbon sequestration in working forests;
- encouraging the use of wood in tall building construction; and,
- improving forest carbon data through the U.S. Forest Service.
