On May 20, 2021, GFA Board Member Troy Harris, Managing Director of Timberland at Jamestown LP, testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry at a hearing addressing forestland and the opportunities for impacting climate change.
Harris, a certified forester with over 25 years of experience in public and institutional timberland portfolio management, advocated for private working forests and their part as a natural climate solution. Harris discussed the carbon benefits of forests, and provided testimony in support of:
- expanding markets for carbon sequestration in working forests;
- encouraging the use of wood in tall building construction; and,
- improving forest carbon data through the U.S. Forest Service.

I’m thankful for GFA members like Mr. Harris who are supporting our goal to tell the story of Georgia’s working forests as a solution to so many challenges that we face.
