On July 17, 2021, at the Georgia Forestry Association’s (GFA) Annual Conference in Hilton Head, South Carolina, several GFA members were recognized for outstanding service and dedication to the mission of the Association and their work to keep Georgia the #1 Forestry State in the Nation.
2021 Wise Owl Award
The Wise Owl Award is GFA’s highest honor. The award has been given since 1980 to recognize individuals who has dedicated his or her career to the betterment of the broader forestry community. This year, David Foil, President of Forest Resource Consultants, a full-service forestry consultancy headquartered in Macon, Georgia, and serving forest landowners across the U.S. South.
Prior to joining the company in 1988 and later becoming a shareholder, David worked with St. Regis Paper Company and J.T. Strahan Timber Corporation. In addition to his service to the Association as Chairman in 2005, he has served as a Trustee for the Georgia Forestry Foundation and continues to serve on the GFA Board of Directors.
2021 Tree Farmer of the Year
The Georgia Tree Farm Program also announced Harrison Woodlands as the 2021 Georgia Tree Farm of the Year. The property is located in Schley County Georgia and is owned by GFA member Mike Harrison.
2021 Champion of Forestry Awards
The Champion of Forestry Award is presented at the discretion of the GFA President & CEO to an individual who has supported the mission and vision of the Association and who has dedicated a significant amount of time and effort through volunteer service. This year Champion of Forestry Awards were presented to Marshall Thomas, President of F&W Forestry Services; Jody Strickland, Chief Business Officer of F&W Forestry Services; and, Rebecca Watson, Timber Harvest Manager with WestRock.
