Empowering You at the Grassroots Level

Today more than ever, it is important that you be engaged in the political process to help tell the story of forestry in Georgia. The FORT, or Forest Resource Teams, is GFA’s grassroots organization that consists of GFA members who support the advocacy efforts of the Association by creating one-on-one relationships with their State Representative and State Senator. Become a champion of forestry in your community – join the FORT today!

What Does the FORT Do?

As a member of the FORT, your objective is to build a relationship with your legislators. After signing up, we will send you a FORT Tool Kit, which will include a guide on how to engage with your elected leaders. Types of engagement will include:
  • Setting up a meeting in their district to get to know them
  • Inviting them to GFA events (i.e. Forestry Day at the Capitol)
  • Sending hand-written notes
  • Emailing or calling them when important legislation is up for a vote
  • Providing fact sheets about forestry in Georgia
  • Providing fact sheets about pro-forestry legislation
FORT members receive regular communications focused on helping you in building a relationship with your legislators. And, most importantly, our Government Affairs Team will call on the FORT to make legislators aware of important Forestry initiatives throughout the legislative process.

Because of the FORT, my representative knows that I’m a part of the forest products industry, and he knows that I can provide him with credible information that will help him vote appropriately on topics that will impact our community. If you’re a forestry professional or someone that depends on Georgia’s working forests, I believe that you should be a part of the FORT, it’ll be a rewarding experience.
