Timber Harvesting & Wood Fiber Operations, a Hatton-Brown magazine that is distributed to more than 18,000 subscribers in North America, recently featured Georgia Forestry Association member Pierce Timber Company and Georgia State Representative Chad Nimmer the March/April issue of the magazine.
David Abbott, senior associate editor for the publication, traveled to Blackshear, Georgia, to visit Pierce Timber, a full-service forestry company specializing in buying, harvesting, hauling, site prepping and – via subcontractors – reforestation. The article describes the company’s unique business structure, and its culture of providing opportunities for entrepreneurs.
“We’re probably one of the few wood suppliers left that has its own company logging operations,” Owner, President and CEO Hugh Thompson said in the article. “We have been blessed to have a group of quality contractors we’ve learned a lot from, and along the way we have picked up some company crews.”
The article also features Pierce Timber Manager and Georgia State Representative Chad Nimmer (R-Blackshear). Rep. Nimmer has served since 2010 as a Representative for District 178, which includes Pierce and Brantley counties and portions of Wayne and Appling. Rep. Nimmer works closely with GFA’s President Steve McWilliams during the session is a consistent advocate for Georgia’s working forests.
“I take a lot of pride in the fact that I represent an industry that is a financial driver of a natural resource state,” Nimmer said. “We in the timber business need to recognize how blessed we are to be stewards of one of God’s most valuable resources He’s given us, and we need to educate people on what we are doing. We are providing jobs and using something that is very sustainable and renewable.”
