On May 6, nine members the Georgia Forestry Association’s (GFA) Emerging Leaders (EL) attended the 2016 Leadercast event to gain training and knowledge from experts in leadership and management.
Leadercast is a leadership development event that creates and develops leaders by providing cost-efficient, high quality leadership development solutions. Packed with rich content and guided by a set of core values, Leadercast teaches young, up-and-coming leaders constructive ways to accomplish goals and manage both themselves and people.
“It is an opportunity for people with different ideas to come together and diversify their outlooks about leadership to better manage a variety of people,” said Harrington.
This year’s event featured many speakers, from Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban to Buckhead Church Pastor Andy Stanley, and focused on what it means to be a visionary leader by exploring the unique perspectives that an architect must discover.
“The event was a complete success,” said Garrett Mack, chairman of the Emerging Leaders. “It empowered me to take ownership of my personal and professional life and set high goals that have a clear and attainable vision going forward.”
Leadercast provided attendees with lessons not only about leading employees but also about making decisions for yourself as a leader.
“The biggest take-away I got from the event was that being a good leader is so much more than being a nice, successful manager,” said Harrington. “It’s important to connect with your employees and coworkers, but also to know how to be a better decision maker for yourself.”
GFA’s EL program is an all-volunteer group representing young professionals from various sectors of the forestry community that are passionate about forest advocacy and education in Georgia. Through leadership training, social interactions, educational opportunities and events like Leadercast, Emerging Leaders build leadership and professional skills within the forestry community to ready themselves for future roles as leaders in GFA.
The ELG will meet this year at the GFA Annual Conference and Forestry Expo at the end of July. If you or someone in your company are interested in learning more about the Emerging Leaders Group, please click here.
