Frank Green Announced as New Georgia Tree Farm Administrator

The Georgia Tree Farm Program (GTFP) recently announced the addition of Frank Green as its Program Administrator starting January 2016. Matt Hestad, director of communications and public relations with the Georgia Forestry Association, recently spoke with Green to discuss his new role. Click the image below to learn more.

After graduating from the UGA Forestry School in 1978, Frank has more than 40 years of experience in Georgia forestry working with the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) as its Associate Chief of Forest Management. He developed and coordinated the GFC’s water quality program. Many involved with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program should remember Frank through the Master Timber Harvester Program, specifically BMP training and education. He served on GFA’s Logger Education and Environmental Subcommittees and on the Georgia SFI Logger Education and Inconsistent Practices Subcommittees.

This is a major step forward for the GTFP. Recent updates within the American Tree Farm System and results of a 2014 audit by the National Program concluded that operating the program without a dedicated person is no longer a viable option. Frank’s position will be key to maintaining database integrity. He will also coordinate future inspector training, field days, awards, audits and develop communication updates through websites and newsletters.

The hiring could not have happened without the financial support from the following companies: Weyerhaeuser, RockWest, PCA, GP, Huber, Norbord, Ga Biomass, Resolute, Interfor, Jordan Forest Products, Langdale, Newport Timber, Claude Howard Lumber Company, Pollard Land Company, Stuckey Timberland, etal. The GTFP’s Executive Committee appreciates this support and looks forward to growing under the assistance of Frank Green.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the American Tree Farm System. Learn more about the history and legacy of the Tree Farm Program by visiting www.treefarmsystem.org →
