Southern Pines Technical College is offering the following logging / forestry education classes at their campus in Waycross on Friday November 6th, 2020. All courses have been approved (CLE) and (CFE) credit. There are four total classes (2 hour segments) so possible 8 hours total credit.
8:00 a.m.
Water Quality and BMP’s
Speaker: Matt Mrizek (GFC, Water Quality Specialist)
Water Quality updates and BMP’s for logging/forestry
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Safety in the Woods
Speaker: Scott Copeland (Guffin & Eleam Insurance)
Identify hazards at the logging site. Communication between employees on the job, safely setting out loads, and securely delivering forest products to the mill.
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Record Keeping: Harvest Permits and Timber Tax Forms
Speakers: Diane Davis (Ware County Tax Office) and Tommy Peagler
Securing harvesting permits and road bonds from local officials. Correctly completing the timber tax form after harvest. Maintaining accurate records.
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Aesthetics: Creating a positive public image of Logging
Speaker: Tommy Peagler
Implementing harvesting regimes that can influence positive public perception. Leaving the logging site in good condition.
The cost for each course:
2 hours: $40.00
8 hours: $160.00
