The Georgia Forestry Association (GFA) is proud to announce Greg Mullis of Mullis Logging based Pearson, Georgia, as the 2021 Georgia Logger of the Year. Mr. Mullis was recognized at the GFA 2022 Annual Conference on Jekyll Island. Watch the video from his award presentation below.
Mr. Mullis is a member of GFA and the Southeastern Wood Producers Association. His family is integral to the business as his wife is the company secretary and his son works in the woods with him. Greg grew up working for his father Jerry Mullis before spending eight years serving our country in the United States Army. After his time in the Army, he came home and worked with his father for a few years before going out on his own. After his father passed, Mullis had the opportunity to take over his father’s logging business Axson Timber, which operates separately from Mullis Logging. Greg’s father, Jerry Mullis was also a former Georgia Logger of the Year in 2013.
“Greg and his family’s business have created a reputation and culture that represent what makes Georgia the number one forestry state in the nation,” GFA President & CEO Andres Villegas said. “We are proud of the contributions that he has made to the logging community across the state, and he is deserving of this recognition.”
The Logger of the Year Award is presented to an individual who is nominated by the forestry community and reviewed by a committee of professionals across the industry. Greg and his family are well respected and highly regarded by both landowners and procurement foresters in the area, he is highly recommended as an exemplary business owner, harvester, and example for other loggers in Southeast, Georgia. He is involved with his church and has participated in presentations on logging and harvesting with schools in the area over the years. He has also been a participant of the Log-a-load for Kids program for many years.
As Georgia Logger of the Year, Mullis Logging will be nominated for Forest Resources Association’s Southeastern Logger of Year, where he will be evaluated among his peers in surrounding states. GFA will be also accepting nominations for 2022 Logger of the Year. For more information, contact Director of Membership Tim Miller at tim@gfagrow.org.
