Thank you for your interest. \n  \nPurpose \nAs deer season comes to a close in January for parts of the Southeast\, many outdoor enthusiasts turn their attention to small game species. Small game provides a great opportunity to extend your time in the outdoors and is a great way to engage new and young hunters in an active and exciting pursuit for game. In addition\, many landowners and hunting clubs are interested in learning more about enhancing habitat for species such as quail and rabbit to make the most of their small game opportunities. This short course aims to provide technical information about the ecology\, habitat\, and strategies for hunting small game in the southeast\, including outdoor activities and small game habitat field tours. Plan to spend several hours outdoors navigating thick brush with hunting dogs and outdoor apparel (boots) is required. \nWho Will Benefit? \nWildlife biologists\, forestry professionals including consultants and managers\, loggers\, hunting clubs\, hunters\, and landowners interested in small game wildlife management. \nInstructors \nDr. James Johnson is an Outreach Program Assistant with the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. His research while at the Warnell School focused on developing a survey method for assessing white-tailed deer populations using trail cameras. James has spent most of his life on his family’s farm in North Georgia engaging in numerous land management activities and has been a member and advocate of the hunting community for over 20 years. \nDr. Gino D’Angelo is an Assistant Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. His research focuses on improving wildlife population management\, guiding science-driven management by state and federal agencies\, and enhancing knowledge of deer anatomy and physiology. Gino is also a third-generation rabbit hunter with decades of experience training\, breeding\, and hunting with beagles. \nDavid Osborn is the Research Coordinator for the Deer Lab in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. David oversees research at the Whitehall Deer Research Facility\, teaching students skills related to working with captive deer. DESCRIPTION:Save the date for a webinar hosted by ACCG and the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) on Monday\, December 13 from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. This webinar will provide an overview of the newly created Timber Harvest Notification website – a website that will establish state-wide uniformity on the notification process as well as make it easier for counties to be aware of and monitor harvest sites within their jurisdiction. The site will launch statewide early next year and is a result of legislation (HB 897) passed during the 2020 session of the Georgia General Assembly. All counties who have a Timber Harvest Notification Ordinance in place are encouraged to patriciate in this webinar. Webinar registration details will be released soon. \n\n  \n\nACCG Membership Approves the 2022 Policy Agenda  \n\n\n\n\n\nThe ACCG membership approved the 2022 Policy Agenda on Saturday\, November 13 during the business session at the County Reconnect Conference. The Policy Agenda comprises the Guiding Principles\, Policy Objectives\, and Legislative Priorities.
